Traditionally, universities were bastions of the impractical, and now they are becoming "client-driven", and that's okay because there is a theoretical element that appears in nursing and golf management programs that totally is the equivalent of reading Sagan or Chomsky or Augustine or Derrida. And even if it wasn't, there's no alternative model because academic programs are becoming more job-driven. And don't even think there could be any effort to integrate the two worlds and produce critical thinkers ready to help in the world, or enable co-ops and the like that would "subsidize" and support an English degree, say, making it no less advantageous careerwise than the golf thing. Because that smacks of socialism, dude. Oh, vulgar triumphalism.… (altro)
