An introduction for young readers on the basics of how to care for a pet hermit crab. Bright photos and clear, simple text lay the foundation for children to take greater responsibility and a more active role in their pets' lives. Additional features include a table of contents, a glossary of key words and phrases, a fun-facts section, a list of needs and dangers to the pet, and sources for further research.

This is an informational nonfiction book about hamsters and their care. This book covers topics that a hamster owner would need in order to properly care for their new pet. It has colored photographs on each page demonstrating the topic (food, homes, health) accompanied by short paragraphs of large text. This is a perfect book for young readers- it gives good information without being overwhelming.

Christmas trees have been a part of our holiday celebrations for a long time, but what do we really know about the tradition? This slim book introduces kids to basic information about Christmas trees. Kids get a brief introduction on everything from choosing a Christmas tree to decorating one. The book is illustrated with full color photographs and even includes a glossary and resources for further reading. Call-out boxes in the shape of Christmas gift tags draw attention to related information.

The Bottom Line: "Christmas Trees" is part of the "Our Holiday Symbols" series which includes Thanksgiving Turkeys, Fourth of July Fireworks, Easter Bunnies, and more. It is a fun introduction to information about a favorite holiday tradition. Recommended for kids in grades K - 2. Also, recommended for school or public libraries with holiday collections.

The history of Halloween and the origin of it's various symbols, is vast and lengthy. I like this book because it focuses on one symbol: the jack-o-lantern. Not only does it give a history, appropriate for young ears, it also talks about how pumpkins are grown and harvested.
