Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply by Terry Spear
Heart of the Wolf series #19. Silver Town wolfs #6. Paranormal wolf shifter romance. Slow build. Can be read as a stand-alone but characters from prior books are supporting and secondary characters in this story. Original publication 2016.
Wolf shifter and park ranger Eric Silver is busy with his job policing the San Isabel National Forest. He’s also searching for the wolves that are illegally growing marijuana plants in so e of the most remote areas of the forest. The Silver pack knows how dangerous the wolf shifters can be if they think their income is threatened. In his searching, Eric comes across another wolf pack run by alpha Pepper Grayling who has a hurt pack member. He helps get the hurt woman to their car but then is attached by a male wolf as he’s leaving. The male isn’t a part of the Grayling pack but he is a threat. Since Pepper is one of the only alphas in her pack, Eric decides to help make sure they are safe. He’s enamored with Pepper but she’s not sure she wants another mate based on her prior experience experiences.

Slow build romance as Eric gets to know the Graylings and threats bounce from Pepper to Eric. He has to prove he’s not out to usurp her role as alpha. If it takes flowers, cooking, birthday parties and safety patrols, he’s all in. Now they just have to get rid of the threat. After they shower. Wink wink.
Another mated couple in this growing family of wolf shifters. Two brothers mated, two to go.
An enjoyable romance with a few steamy scenes and an hea for an afternoon escape.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also found a paperback copy on my bookshelf.

A Good Wolf is Hard to Find by Terry Spear
Run with the Wolf series #2. Spin off / similar to Heart series. Wolf shifter romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Roxie Wolf and her family moved to Silver Town to live in a wolf shifter run area. They own and manage a hotel, event space and resort. Roxie is one of the last single females in the family. When she goes for a swim one night, she’s just in time to see a man fall into the pool, face first, with full outdoor gear and backpack. After rescuing him, she finds out he is an agent of Fish and Wildlife Services and someone just tried to kill him! As a wolf shifter himself, the town is fully behind Dylan Powers in finding the hunters that have gone into hiding after committing a murder. As Dylan recovers from a head injury, spending time with Roxie and falling in love, has him coming to the conclusion that living in a town of wolf shifters may be just the family he’s always craved.

Adventure, romance with steam, building family and community, and doing the right thing. All part of this author’s absorbing storytelling. I can read these romances like eating candy. Yummy, addictive and satisfying.
4.25

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I’ve read and enjoyed many of this authors shifter stories.

When this first came out I wasn't much into werewolves. Or any other kind of Shifter either. Part of it was lack of caring about them and the other part was the irrational dislike I have taken towards canines of any breed. Maybe because I'm so horrifically allergic to them. At any rate I ignored this book in favor of other paranormals even though I was rather interested in it.

As my tastes have changed I've begun to reach out and look at books and authors I overlooked. Patricia Briggs for instance, her Alpha and Omega series makes me a happy girl. When I received this book as part of a prize pack I was delighted and eager to read it...then it got packed away on the shelves and I completely forgot to find it again. Re-shelving began and I found it again and decided to read it right then and there.

I liked this book, but there was something not quite right with it. I can't place my finger on it, though I think it has something to do with the romance between Bella and Devlyn. It's not that it wasn't passionate or that there wasn't chemistry, I think it was more because the two of them made so many excuses as to why it couldn't happen that when it did happen I was shocked. 150 years of living in fear of the Alpha, Devlyn telling her that he has no choice but to give her to the Alpha and Bella being equally adamant against the action...it didn't add up in my head.

As for the other storyline of the red wolf killing folks, that storyline was rather jumbled and thrown together to give Devlyn and Bella a chance to find some time alone. I was confused by its resolution. The problems of the romantic nature were easily taken care of, if anyone had bothered to communicate, and over pretty quickly. The added bit of Bella having to fight to be Alpha Female was unneeded and over quickly at any rate.

In the end, as I said, I liked the book, but nagging doubts clouded me from really enjoying it. I want to read the next in the series and see if maybe it was just freshmen blues plaguing this first book in the Werewolf Series.

In the second book of the Heart of the Wolf series, red wolf Lelandi has traveled to Silver Town, Colorado in search of the person who killed her sister, Larissa, but first she needs to meet with Larissa’s mate, Darien. Lelandi has a lot of secrets—she’s in danger from her own pack, she believes her parents are dead, and her brother is missing. Her life is all about revenge, and she’s not about to let a seductive gray wolf stand in her way.
Darien Silver is the gray pack leader of the Silver Town wolves, and he’s in mourning over the death of his pregnant mate. When he meets Lelandi, he’s in shock. The two women are near-identical twins (actually, they’re triplets with a brother), but he recognizes Lelandi as the woman he’s seen in his dreams. He soon realizes he mated the wrong sister and sets out to take Lelandi for his own.
Though I liked the story, I couldn’t connect with the H/h. Both Darien and Lelandi kept too many secrets from each other. He was also very protective of her—which an alpha hero should be—but his actions and words were often sexist and too controlling. Lelandi, luckily, had a backbone and did what she wanted anyway, but he often seduced her to bend her to his will. I also couldn’t understand how his feelings for Larissa just disappeared after he realized she lied to him about being his soul mate.
I was a little confused since details were breezed over in the beginning and sometimes the wrong names were being used. For example, I thought Larissa was originally mated to Bruin, not to Crassus. At least that’s how it seemed at first. Also, in one scene Lelandi is sitting on the couch and then her dead sister, Larissa, is on the couch. The wrong name was used, unless I misread something again.
Anyway, I enjoyed the mystery of who blackmailed and killed Larissa. I really felt sorry for the poor girl. Darien’s brothers and other members of his pack, especially Silva and Sam, were awesome secondary characters. I can’t wait to see what happens with them in future books. We officially meet Leidolf, the red wolf who helped the couple in the previous book, and I’m even more intrigued with him and his connection with newly turned wolf Carol.
3 Stars
