Harry Rowohlt, the heir to the German publishing house Rowohlt, recently died. He was a larger than life character, an entertainer who only had to be supplied with food and drink (usually highly alcoholic - which ultimately killed him) to keep an audience spellbound for hours and hours. This account of a conversation of the two friends in Ireland in 2001 both offers a good account of Harry Rowohlt's life and career as well as they way and style he entertained people. It also shows how small the literature and entertainment complex in Germany actually is with a small cast of characters running into each others in limited venues.… (altro)
