Forbidden Zone is the tale of a Special Operations Executive (SOE) operative deployed into France to help avert a catastrophe that would see Germany able to reverse the tide of battle after the successful Allied Normandy landings.

It's based on real events, allegedly, regardless however it is a pretty interesting and entertaining story that does have an air of realism. I do think it's a little unfortunate that it's so short at a mere 217 pages though as I felt there could have been areas of more detail and/or more expansion, nonetheless it is a decent book that kept me my attention to the point that I read it cover to cover in an afternoon.… (altro)

Terrorists attack a secret US installation where a new super weapon has been invented, and subsequently stolen, once again General Freemen enters the realm with his team backed up by a Marine Expeditionary Unit to seek vengeance.

Probably one of the better recent books in the series, but still not as all encompassing as the first seven books were. Could quite easily be read stand alone without missing much as it doesn't rely much on prior events (an in fact contradicts earlier books by forgetting that North Korea was earlier over thrown, as the last book Payback also did).

Overall, it's a entertaining book but the shine has certainly come off the series the longer it's gone on getting less ambitious and more generic as each new book arrived.

If looking to start reading the series, in my opinion, only books 1-7 are really worth your time, the rest don't line up with events in these prior and seem quite shallow by comparison.

Payback continues on from Chokepoint, in what appears to be the same world, that is a different setting to books 1-7 (despite quoting some events from them). You could quite happily read this book standalone as it doesn't rely on the earlier works, and I do in fact wonder why books 8 onwards were included in the world war 3 series when they aren't in fact continuations of the same universe/story line.

It's alright, more of a terrorist retaliation story than war in the classic sense - a bunch of terrorists attack aeroplanes in America downing them on take off with shoulder launched missiles, they trace the origin of the missiles then go in to get proof of who was behind it. Pretty straight forward narrative with a handful of shallow sub plots.

Entertaining, sure, but a let down compared to the quality in books 1-7.

I can say that the more of this series I read, the less impressed I am.

Books 1 through 7 were a complete story line set in one universe where word war 3 had started, book 8, South China Sea had events which conflicted with what happened in the first 7 books then along comes Choke Point, book number 9 - coming back are Brentwood & Co that were left out of South China Sea, however once again this book conflicts with earlier events in the series, not only with the first 7 books, but also the events of South China Sea. Thereby making this a third storyline which included elements from the first 7 books, but not others, and also alludes to events which have not occurred in any of the books that sound like they would have been interesting.

There's two more books left in the series and I really hope it either continues on from here properly, or from book 7 rather than this bizarre scheme that has gone on with the last two books, which frankly is quite poor.
