I was assigned this text for my Rhetoric and Civic Engagement class. It starts off strong, but doesn't really continue with this momentum. The book doesn't so much impart information as it does make suggestions and tell you what questions to ask. It's more useful as a collection of case studies and an outline of problems than it is as any kind of solution. I appreciated that it was very inclusive and spoke to many groups of people, but this lead to a lot of vagueness. However, the rarity of books that considers diversity in race, gender, and class makes the presence of it in this book invaluable. Overall, this book is about empowering people to engage in their communities and teaching them how to make the best decisions in order to further their message. It would be most useful to American college professors.… (altro)
