What I'm going to write here isn't really Review material in the strict sense, but I thought it would more likely be read here than in the Comments box. Anyway, there is a piquant historical irony wrapped around this fine, serviceable little book. American Stove Company was a Union operation, and indeed one of the last three firms where the good old IWW still had job-control. They lost that in 1950, though the shop remained Union, under the Mechanics Educational Society of America. Anyway, Kingsprot Press, which printed this book was also a Union operation, but went scab in the 1950s, and was the object of a long and well-publicized boycott. Sadly, to my knowledge, it remains an open shop; I don't know about Magic Chef, though I have my doubts as-of this note (24 Sept 2012)… (altro)
