Wasn't expecting a book about baby chicks to have "sperm" on its very first page, but hey, it kept me reading.

In the series 'An I can read science book;' this hits the mark combining science, the lifecycle of a moth, a children's book - great illustrations - and a story with growing mystery and tension as to the outcome, a moth emerging from a coccoon.

This makes me want to grow my own chickpeas and mangos. Then I realize I'm probably too lazy to be bothered.

I love that this book teaches the reader howto use clues to identify different tracks. This book really encourages the reader to expand their thinking while reading page by page.

I liked this book because it was kid friendly on how eggs become chicks. The illustration showed different diagrams with labels to inform the reader of what the chick looks like inside the egg at certain days. It points to where the ears, heart, eyes, wings, and legs are. The illustrations definitely capture the readers attention. Along with how it is written because on some pages the illustrations are in between words or sentences. Which draws the reader away for a split second but then re-engages them back into what is written.

I am disappointed by this book mostly because of the way the information is presented both linguistically and visually. This book is about fruit vegetables and their defining factors, but the majority of the pictures are black and white. Also, throughout the book, the author merely describes how tomatoes grow rather than what makes them fruits. For instance, pages 6-22 explain how the leaves, flowers, and ovaries of tomato plants develop, without comparing its development to the requirements for something to be recognized a s a fruit. The distinction between fruits and vegetables were only inferred to on the close-to-last page when the author asks, “Can you think of other vegetables that are really fruits because they contain seeds?” The title of the book was misleading and I was disappointed, along with the few others I introduced the book to.
