Ask students questions about the cover page to get them thinking about what they book may be about. It is a touching story that would do well as a read aloud, or read along with so students could practice reading stories with comprehension. The pictures on every page help students not become overwhelmed with the other page filled with words. Good story to teach about resourcefulness, and change.

This is a good example of realistic fiction. The main characters are easy to identify with (the new girl who wants to fit in and the girl who gets made fun of) and the bond they build is one that kids can relate to with their best friends. The characters are real, the events are fairly real and the students would feel connected to the story.

This book will be very interst book for those kids that like surprises
