George Scarbrough

A fine novel about a young boy's long-ago summer on his parents' farm in the 1930's, reminiscent of but not the equal of Tony Early's "Jim the Boy". Alan's main concern over the summer is making enough money to buy new books for school, but as the summer progresses, he comes to learn the interconnectedness of living things, especially in a rural town in the 1930's.
