Tomas Sancio

This novel follows a couple of years in the main character's life as he flees a legal situation in Europe just before the novel starts and chronicles two years learning the country, language, and people of Venezuela. The book acts almost as a tourist treatise in that Marcello finds himself needing or wanting to visit or stay in many regions of the country.

Marcello left behind his girlfriend/fiancee in Europe and struggles with his emotions around their being apart. While he gets occasional information from Europe about whether he can come home, eventually the law gets closer to him. Meanwhile he's slowly acclimating to Venezuela and the reader wonders whether his fiancee, his legal situation, and Venezuela will converge or diverge as his life progresses.… (altro)
