2023 movie #144. 1976. Buffalo Bill (Newman) hires Sitting Bull for his Wild West Show. A so-called "revisionist" Western. Despite the all-star cast and famous director (Altman), this was really dull and much too long. Not really a story but a series of episodes.

This is the printed screen play of an enjoyable film. We are at Buffalo Bill's Wild West Shows home base at Cody, Wyoming, and the show is rehearsing before taking to the road for another season. And this is a film about the difficulties of putting together a working show out of a great many disparate personalities and agendas. Bill does this because he's always been fascinated by the show business, and this year's cast even includes, the Shaman and leader Sitting Bull, himself. The sound track is the usual mish-mash of competing voices but Rudolph and Altman have succeeded in a comic tour-de-force. The script is very useful for reference during the film, and if you have the right imagination, not a bad substitute.½
