This is a series of intertwined short stories, just as is the other book I've only just finished: Elizabeth Strout's "Olive, Again". That's where the comparison finishes, however. Strout's is superior, but Rossiter's stories were certainly interesting enough to keep me listening while I walked through the night on my 10 km commute. These stories are about members of one family, based in Western Australia, over multiple generations. I felt that the narrative was a little mechanical and uninspiring, without enough character development or universality to draw me in. That's one reason I don't usually read short stories, and I think it takes an exceptional writer to really do well in this format. As an aside, it was interesting to hear an audiobook which has been produced for blind people (as distinct from people who don't have the time or inclination to read the printed version.). This version had *all* the details, ISBNs, acknowledgements, footnotes, etc etc. Nothing omitted.… (altro)
