Eleanor Robins

Have you ever had something taken away from you that you really loved? I was very entertained the whole time I was reading this book because there was a lot of action and suspense. I had some low expectations for the book because it was only rated a two-star but it ended up being interesting. In this book, a boy has had something that he has worked hard for taken away from him by somebody he doesn’t even know.

The main characters of the novel are the two boys who are trying out for quarterback. They are friends. One of the quarterbacks is named Dan. The other boy's name is Clay. Clay is from out of state, and Dan has always attended Carter High. The setting is resolved around Dan’s house and the high school that he attends. The role that this plays determines how the characters communicate throughout the book and their actions.

The central conflict or problem in the book Back-up Quarterback is that a kid named Clay who has never come to Dan’s school has taken his job of being the starting quarterback for his high school football team. The central conflict relates to the overall plot and meaning of this story as Dan feels that his job should not have been taken from somebody who just got to the school and he has to figure out how he is going to overcome this surprise.

The theme of the book Back-up Quarterback is friendship and competition. As Dan has to help Clay get welcomed into the school and show him around they still are competing for the starting quarterback spot on the football team. I do not recommend this novel because it was not well written as there were plenty of words spelled wrong and missed punctuation. It was also difficult to find connections to the book. Although if you fall under the category of being a football player or in general an athlete I think that you would connect to it and find this book interesting, so if you are not an athlete that can connect to this book I would not recommend this book.… (altro)

Backup Quarterback
This book is about trying your best even when you don't get what you want. I recommend this book to anyone interested in football, high school sports, or high school drama. This is because if you are in football or in high school sports or even just in high school, you might enjoy this book because you could find it relatable.
There is drama in the book when a new kid comes to town and threatens Dan's position as the new quarterback. The other kid whose name is Clay moved into town during the summer and was known to be a football player but Dan didn't know what position he played until he talked to the coach about it. Dan was unhappy because he was scared he might lose his shot at being the starting quarterback. This makes Dan scared that he has lost another year trying to work to be the quarterback and when he would be first up he might lose the position to a kid who hadn't spent the same time he had along with the same amount of work. Dan was even thinking about quitting the football team because he didn't want to use another year of his life without having playing time as the lead quarterback. But in the end, both boys pushed threw and learned a lot. In conclusion, the book was really good and if you read it you can learn about why you should always give your best effort in what you do in school and sports and hobbies.… (altro)

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Critique: This is realistic fiction, because the events in this story could actually happen. The two high schools dialogue about their life, crushes, homework, and activities. I found their conversations to be realistic. This book is also a mystery, and the premise of the story was plausible. Two students definitely would have been capable of the way these girls solved the crime.… (altro)
