“Painting” by prolific author, Deri Robins is suitable for the ages of about 7 to 11. The book contains interesting and fun activities that children will enjoy. Some examples of the techniques that “Painting” describes are “Painting with dots” and “patterns” “Dragging and combing” and “Watery painting”. The language Robins uses is appropriate for a young age group, as it’s fairly simple, an example being; “Nearly every color you can think of is made up from just three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow” (Robins, 6).

The information in “Painting” is very clearly set out and moderately large text is used. The subheadings are also appropriate. Other useful features of the book are a contents, glossary, index and “Notes for teachers”.

The photos and illustrations in “Painting” are bright and colorful. They’re also arranged in a logical fashion, obviously portraying what the text is describing.… (altro)

Welsh author and editor Deri Robins has worked in the publishing world for much of her adult career. While she has produced several children's story books, such as "The Sword in the Sword: The Quest for a Stolen Emerald," and "Mystery of the Monster Party," most of Robins's books have been in the area of nonfiction. In addition to activity books such as Easter Fun, The Spies and Detective Cut and Color Book, and Creative Bracelets, Robins has also presented more focused books that discuss art techniques from painting to cartooning and textile design, and has also served up advice to young readers in A Smart Girl's Guide to Boys.
