Upon receiving this book, number 4 in a series from LibraryThing’s Early Reviewer program, I wondered if I would be able to jump into the plot and characters having not read 1-3. After several chapters of rich, detailed writing, especially explaining the time difference between our Earth and the fantasy world of Misewa when one goes through portals, along with not knowing the back story of characters, I decided I have to read the series in order to enjoy this series. Obviously I recommend this book as it has spurred me to order 1-3 and 5. One side note: having left the book on the patio table, a 12 year old neighbor picked it up, read the back cover blurb about animals going missing in a village and immediately referenced the current news topic of pets being eaten in Springfield, Ohio. My wife and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary by reading picture books aloud to each other. (2 of 5)

A Cree boy bonds with his grandfather as they visit the ancestral land where the old man lived by trapping and fishing with his family when he was a child.

The words and art are simple and straightforward while still being a heartwarming and emotional reflection on what has been lost and what remains.

Good, fast-paced hockey story. Great supportive family moments, great growth and team moments, great friendships. Alex's ability to take criticism and advice is pretty stellar, and I love the way that Robertson writes about the damage that racist speech can do, even when it's unintentional. I am going to have a hard time recommending this to kids, though, because of the formatting -- it's got a wonderful cover, and then tiny type with single spacing -- it's going to be a hard sell unless the student is already a confident reader.… (altro)
