As a photography book, this is a great find for the aficionado of rural decay. The author is one herself and is a more than competent photographer. She also writes reasonably well and in her captioning shares her stories about her visits to the buildings; however, I do wish that she had stayed awake during spelling class. The book's main flaw is that rarely does she tell us where these buildings are and rarer still are the moments when even an Iowan will have heard of these ghost towns and hamlets. An editor would doubtless have pointed this out as well as fixed the spelling.… (altro)

Being a collection of photographs of ruins and restored ruins from eastern Nebraska, taken and captioned by a hobbyist. The book is intriguing, the photographs often striking and moving, and the captions usually informative, with a personal touch. The captioning is a little sloppy at times--she doesn't always tell you where these buildings are, though it must be said that I often didn't really know where the places were even when she did ID them, and she could stand to brush up her grammar a trifle. But the book is a handsome vehicle for carrying out its purpose on the whole.… (altro)
