- Lilly zu Rantzau was born Baroness Lilli von Maltzahn to an aristocratic family in Bydgoszcz, Poland, known in German as Bromberg, then under Prussian rule. In 1917, she married Otto zu Rantzau, later a German government minister, with whom she had two sons. She wrote several novels, the best known of which was Kamerad Frau (Comrade Woman, 1937).
