This is a beautiful book with photographs from New Guinea (both PNG and the Indonesian province now called Papua).

The photographer visited tribes in some 36 areas that were all little touched by modernity or progress. All pictures were taken in black and white in a style reminiscent of classical ethnographic photography.

I visited Papua in 1990, experiencing myself situations which were almost like "first contacts". Taking these photographs must have required a lot of time and patience, as well as endless bush walks, bad meals, insects, and other hardship.

Still, the dignity of these people as well as their diversity and art come out splendidly.… (altro)
