The strongest part of this book is the mother's story, which is beautifully and powerfully written. The other narratives felt incomplete, with many important elements left out. Many of the people were not fully realized in their pprtrayal, so it was difficult to understand their motivations and personalities beyond the obvious. My sense is that the whole. experience was just too understandably painful to go back and do a deeper edit and revision.

A volume alternating between the spellbinding history of Spiritualism and one woman's summer spent with the spiritualists, psychics and mediums of Camp Etna, the oldest Spiritualist community in Maine. The discovery of such a place (so close to my own home) combined with the revelations the authors makes (and doesn't make) proves "The In-Betweens" is an honest look at belief, faith, and searching for something more.
