An audio production of the play. When a baby is found strangled with its own umbilical cord in the room of Agnes a young nun at a local convent, a psychiatrist who is also a lapsed Catholic, is called in to determine whether Agnes is criminally responsible. As the psychiatrist interviews both the Mother Superior and Agnes repeatedly to get to the bottom of what happened that night she will be forced to grapple with issues of faith and the possibility of miracles.

All three actresses in this production are powerhouses and make all of the emotions palpable to the listener. Compelling not only as a mystery but as a character study.… (altro)

A pleasant film, if rather slow-moving and with some old fashioned feeling 1980s direction. As a stand-alone it works, although the low-key love affair has little chemistry, and the 63-year-old Penelope appears considerably older than this. It's a challenge to condense a lengthy saga novel into a little over an hour and a half, so it's inevitable that much of the (excellent) book of the same name has been cut. But although the basic story is much the same, there are some added scenes which didn't (indeed couldn't) happen in the book, which I found quite disturbing the first time I watched it.

Pleasant enough light viewing, rated U but unlikely to appeal to children or teens.
