Ad Petersen

W.J.H.B. Sandberg (1897-1984), typographer and director of Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum of Contemporary Art (1945-1962), had an ambition. He wanted to confront the largest number of people with contemporary art and convince them that it was a natural product of the age. This highly illustrated book, traces his contribution to poster design, typography and the transformations (both physical and metaphysical) of the Stedelijk when under his guidance.

Volume two in the series 'Graphic Design in the Netherlands' initiated by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

Published on the occasion of the award to Sandberg of the Erasmus Prize.
