Reel Estate Rip-off (Volume 2) di Renee Pawlish
Pretty good, particularly since I think I got this as a kindle freebie. The character of Reed Ferguson, a not-so-hardboiled detective and movie buff, was imminently likeable. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of the whole private detecting business yet, and the reader gets to enjoy his ride of discovery. Reed is hired to prove that a suicide was really a murder and ends up entangled in the world of Hollywood memorabilia.

I wasn't aware this was a character from a previous series. Maybe it's better if you're a fan but it most definitely doesn't stand on its own.
The characters were bland and indistinguishable. The main character constantly hints at her deep secret past but I honestly just didn't care. Because forget her deep past - I don't know anything about her at all.
The mystery itself is a mess. There's militia groups and pedophiles and abusive parents and none of it really leads anywhere. I get that the author is trying to make the crime complex but there's complex and there's disaster and unfortunately this one falls under disaster.
I finished but I was counting pages. I love a good female detective but I don't think this will be a series I continue with. 1.5 stars.… (altro)

Reed Ferguson, film noir buff decides to become a private detective and for his first case comes the femme fatale looking for her missing husband.
While his girlfriend, Willie, spends the night, he is awoken by a fire in the building across the street. When he finds out that the building belongs to Willie, and the body of a troublesome tenant is found inside, Reed must clear Willie of any wrongdoing.
