This is a short, simple explanation of why we wear poppies for Remembrance Day, suitable for younger children, accompanied by paintings by Governor General's Award winning artist Ron Lightburn. It also includes the poem “In Flanders Fields” and more in-depth information in two sections at the end of the book: The Story of the Poppy, and Remembrance Day in Canada, geared toward helping teachers and parents introduce children to Canada's history of war and peacekeeping.
