Breve biografia: Edward C. Patterson has been writing novels, short fiction, poetry and drama his entire life, always seeking the emotional core of any story he tells. With his eighth novel, The Jade Owl, he combines an imaginative touch with his life long devotion to China and its history. He has earned an MA in Chinese History from Brooklyn College with further post graduate work at Columbia University. A native of Brooklyn, NY, he has spent four decades as a soldier in the corporate world gaining insight into the human condition. He won the 1999 New Jersey Minority Achievement Award for his work in corporate diversity. Blending world travel experiences with a passion for story telling, his adventures continue as he works to permeate his reader's souls from an indelible wellspring.

Look Away Silence di Edward C. Patterson

This book ripped my heart out, stomped on it and left it quivering in the dust! But it was done so masterfully. Mr. Patterson has the ability to create characters that come to life, change and grow before our eyes.

So good. So very, very good! The author introduced me to his characters, misfits all, and made me cry with them, cheer for them and feel with them. Brilliant!

The Jade Owl di Edward C. Patterson

I can't believe I finished the damned thing. I really should have quit. It wasn't like the outcome made the whole thing worth it. Get a bloody editor! Had the book been shorter and tighter, it would have helped. Also, the main character was dreadful. I think he was a gay guy's idea of what a straight guy would be like, but it's not. His gay characters are, for the most part, fairly believable though. Just way too long!!!

No Irish Need Apply di Edward C. Patterson

I enjoyed this very much. It follows the growing relationship between two young men in the build-up to their High School Prom. After the story of the Mississippi prom which was cancelled earlier this year, the novel (which was published in 2008) seems remarkably prescient and topical. I thought the love story was delicately handled and the responses of the boys’ mothers to the relationship were sensitively drawn.

The writing is clear and at times poetic, with excellent dialogue. The whole book is suffused with a quiet sense of humour which made for a pleasant reading experience. Even if you don’t think this is your cup of tea, I’d urge you to give it a try. I think it would appeal to a wide range of readers.

Unlike the earlier reviewer, I didn't notice any grammatical or spelling errors in the Smashwords edition. I do tend to agree about the cover though...… (altro)
