DNF at 24%! This book is supposed to be funny and charming, but actually, for me, it was more silly, without being funny and it seems to be taking a romantic turn that I just wasn't that interested to read about. The whole 7 letter thing and the fairie thing just didn't work for. I read some review to see if it was worth continue reading, but apparently the ending is a big let-down so I decided to not go on since there are better books out there in the world just waiting to be read...with great endings.

I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy for an honest review.

This book was not for me.
Evie, Yvonne, Molly & Rosie are the McCarthy ladies. Evie is a local matchmaker, Yvonne runs the family pub while running it into the ground, Molly is an overwraught house mum & Rosie has just run afoul of the law over a scam involving an app her previous boyfriend set up that is actually stealing people's data.
Given this book is an uncorrected proof, this may sound a bit harsh, but to me this book mostly seemed to be a mishmash of magical realism, romance, bad decisions & people flying off the handle. As well as just not feeling very authentic (the author is Aussie after all) add to that a bunch of cliche's, a couple of Irish Gaelic words mixed in for good measure at the end & everything getting wrapped up nicely in a big yellow bow without being explained properly & you have this. Yeah, nah… (altro)

I didn't think I'd make it through this book at first. Well, that's not completely accurate; I thought the first 10% or so was really intriguing. I liked the idea of an inheritance hinged upon the publication of 1 letter each week. But then it stated to get a bit weird with the whole fairy thing and how obsessed people got about it.

What kept me hooked had nothing to do with the fairies, or her magic (which was never really fleshed out in detail). I kept reading because I found the story of instant fame and celebrity thrust upon someone who is not the least bit interested in it compelling. In this respect the story is moving and powerful as Kate completely loses control of her own life and identity. There's romance here too, but so slow burning it's almost back-burnered most of the time.

An odd story, written well enough, with an exploration of the destructive powers the public can wield.
