Jules Ohman

A quiet, slightly melancholy queer coming-of-age story that feels rather incidentally also a love story. Recent high school graduate Lou, reeling after witnessing a friend's accidental death, puts off going to college and instead stumbles into a high-profile international modelling career. Lou feels believable as a 18- or 19-year-old who's trying to better understand her identity and sexuality—in other words, both relatable and sometimes eyeroll-inducing—and Jules Ohman's prose is lovely and observant. This is a book I appreciated rather than loved, however—there's something a bit too muted about Body Grammar, something a bit too studiedly-MFA about the voice.… (altro)
