This was alright - it had things I love (such as hockey players and shifters, insta-love / mates), but the overall story was weak. I did like how one character you expect to be a total jerk ends up being helpful to the hero.

To sum up Colby’s story, Sweet steamy love story, Sweet sensitive hockey boy. Loads of laugh-out-loud moments. If you like hockey and love romance with pure heart and laughter, you want to read this.

What drew me to Colby, the starting goalie for The Sound, was his vulnerability. He was desperately worried about his brother, as he should have been. Dez needed to be worried about. Still, it was obviously more than that.

As we find out, Colby is prone to anxiety. To a mom of a boy, a young man (getting older sucks), this hits close to home. Men’s mental health is not discussed enough in general. In the setting of professional sports where men are seen as gods of skill and grace, it is most definitely not talked about enough. It was touching to read about him bravely chasing the woman he loves while dealing with the anxiety that every new turn in a typical new relationship generates all the while dodging the obstacles his fun-loving well-meaning teammates throw in his path.

It is made worse by the fact that Christine, his hardcore crush, isn’t interested in dating hockey players, and even if he can convince her to take a chance, The Sound has rules in place that forbid co-workers from dating. He is up against it if he wants to make this work.

All of my favorite characters from the series and I love that we are still catching up with their lives despite their stories being told. It was worth the wait to learn more about Colby, and it is fitting that we get a bit more of Dez’s story along the way. The next book is due out in December. I am excited.

Michael Dykstman has been an interesting if somewhat impenetrable character throughout the Loving The Sound series. He is a solid on-ice player with an off the ice scoring streak that impresses even his fellow players (pun intended). Rebounding Hope is his story. After years of using sex to purge the memory of the hometown girl that got away, he finds himself back home for a charity event. Avoiding her is not an option. He knows Tiff would rather not have anything to do with him after he left her for a career in hockey, but he is more than willing to give it one more try.

This is a sweet second chance romance. Dykst and Tiff complement each other well and everyone seems to be secretly rooting for them to work things out, including the reader. This isn’t the typical hockey break-up make-up story, it has a bit of an edge. Kat Obie isn’t afraid to add a touch of real life to her romance and it is better for it. While this off-season tale doesn’t offer the usual amount of ice action, Corey CC Corso makes an appearance, proving once again that while he is a perpetual man-child prankster, he is far more perceptive than he lets on. The story’s focus, young Timmy, who is fighting a second time against Leukemia, is the perfect foil, reminding everyone that time is precious and second chances are rare. All in all, this is a great addition to The Sound’s ongoing story.

Jaxson wears his heart on his sleeve and goes all out, whether on the ice, wooing the girl, or defending her honor, but what happens when she doesn’t need him to defend her. This new installment of the Loving The Puckers series is a quick sweet read in the ever-expanding world of the Cleaveland Sound hockey team. The next generation plays hard and loves harder. These confident hockey boys and feisty ladies who give as good as they get, leave it all on the ice.

I have a soft spot for the Dads/Uncles in this series, it is always fun to catch up with The Sound OG. It is also enjoyable to watch this new group of players find their own stories. Jaxson wrestles with his instinctive need to protect the woman he loves while trying to balance it with her need to stand on her own. Nastia has something to prove having grown up around hyper-competitive hockey players, but she hasn’t quite learned that love trumps all.

Once again, I appreciated the dynamic of putting a capable woman into the men’s world and the ripples that creates. This is something that is written very well in this world. Typically, I am not a fan of hockey referees (though I do respect the skill it takes to do their jobs), I did like this ref and I am looking forward to more from The Puckers.
