The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook: The Whole Food Approach to Great Taste and Healthy Eating by Jackie Newgent R.D. is a collection of plant-based, nutritiously well-rounded, simple-to-fix recipes. Now out in its second edition, the book has been updated to include vegetarian and quick-fix recipes, tips for achieving high flavor and suggested menus.
I love eating healthfully and thought this would be a good addition to my growing collection of diabetes-related cookbooks.
While pregnant with my second child I began to have trouble controlling my blood sugar. The last thing you want to resort to during pregnancy is artificial sweeteners so I went looking for a book that had great tasting recipes and natural ingredients.
I found a wonderful cookbook with this one, a cookbook we continue to use today even though my sugar issues are over.
Filled with recipes you'd never expect would be "allowed" on a diabetic diet, the book focuses on balancing carbs, sugars and fats to allow a normal diet full of good tasting foods. In addition it contains recipes using all natural ingredients and no sugar substitutes. Vegeterian dishes are also included.
