Loved this story when it first came out - loved it so much I lent out my book and never got it back! Finally a story for Troi that uses her strengths and one that wrestles with ideas of spirituality and embracing the things in oneself that one fears. It's a break from the usual formula - if you're looking for space battles, skip this one - but the character work, both for our crew and for the characters specifically in this novel, is superb
A "Deanna has a real job" book, and one unusually focused on religion. I didn't think it was terribly well written, but I did enjoy the attempt to address religion within the federation as a whole.
Darius was a fan-favorite character of the series. If you liked him in the show, you'll enjoy this book very much. In fact, the book easily is more about Darius than it is about Duncan. Neason does a very good job with Darius' character. It was particularly neat how Darius story intertwines legendary immortals with the fall of Rome. I really enjoyed the book, but decided to give it the rating I did simply because the book was very predictable. I could tell how things would end after the first 20 pages or so. Still, the bulk of the book involves Darius' past and, although we know the basics of Darius' story from the show, this book dives a little deeper into it than the TV show did and that was quite enjoyable.… (altro)
