Abhijit Naskar

Abhijit Naskar's book is one most Indians must read. He started the book with an excellent first chapter on the actual achievements of our ancient Indians in the fields of science and medicine. This chapter reminded me of Nehru's book on India. Like Nehru, he believes we lost our way since then and have retreated into the world of mumbo-jumbo. His referencing of many of our misogynistic texts, like the Manusmriti, is revelatory. It reminds me I must read the Manusmriti again.
As he says, we have nothing much to be proud of today but can be a great country again.

For this, we must educate the young (the old, he believes, are all beyond redemption), and treat women as equals. More than this, we must embrace the nexus between science and philosophy. They go hand in hand.

The grammar is, at times, odd but his writing is forceful and refreshing.… (altro)
