The author is one of the sons of the outspoken American communist atheist, Madalyn Murray O'Hair. His story includes recounting the multiple and famous law suits, including the 1963 case appealed to the US Supreme Court in which sectarian prayer was banned from public schools. He also describes his mother's political involvements with the communist party, and her odd and self-aborted attempts to defect to the Soviet Union.

William Murray severed all connections with the American Atheists in 1977, and three years later became a Christian. He founded his fund-raising agency, Faith Ministries, to "counteract the forces of humanism and atheism in the United States."

The "conversion story" is very vague. He read the Bible, and alone, accepted Christ. There is not a single example of Christ working in his life. He did apologize publicly with a letter to the editor for his role in the removal of religious prayer led by officials in public schools.
