Book title and author: 52 Weekly Affirmations and Other Practical Techniques to Unleash the Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy reviewed 6-15-24

Why I picked this book up: A recently heard a comment about “The old book the power of the subconscious mind” written by the same author and it seemed like an easy book to flip through to see what he is teaching so I picked it up.

Thoughts: this book was written in 1963. The author became an ordained Preacher in Divine Science and Religious Science. In this book he wrote many examples of mindset shifting and p associated hiw stories with Bible versus. I could see how a lot of this could make sense from a religious perspective and others as way kookie. I had an old supervisor that was psychodynamic that too wacky for me to follow and not scientific based that I did not like working under and this book reminded me of him in some ways, which is not a compliment. I remember doubting donating a tith, 10% at church and seeing when I did it God always provided for me and my family and it showed to me it works and that would be consistent with his book.

Why I finished this read: I finished because it was a quick read, I agreed a little bit and disagreed with other claims but I finished to complete what I started. I considered buying the book I mentioned above and am now doubting buying it.

Stars rating: I rated this at 2.5 of 5 stars. It is not really scientific but it does pan out.

Another book about the subconscious mind. It includes some pseudo-science on how the mind words, and touches on various elements like visualization, affirmations, prayers, etc., followed by application tips. You'll learn:
• How your conscious mind and subconscious mind works;
• Various strategies and techniques you can use to “talk to” or tap into your subconscious mind; and
• How to apply these ideas to generate desired outcomes for physical health, mental-emotional health, wealth and prosperity, relationships, personal and professional success.

This short, inspiring book was initially published in 1963 by Joseph Murphy, "an Irish born, naturalized American author and New Thought minister, ordained in Divine Science and Religious Science" (Wikipedia).
I find Joseph convincing in his contention that prayer, visualization and vigilant self praise can counteract self-doubt and self-deprecating beliefs. His prescription for a happy life, which he contends is Gods desire for us, is vigilante affirmations of health, intelligence, memory, good habits, dream achievements, prosperity, and the projection of love and good will.
I believe that the psychological field, "Cognitive Therapy" preaches much the same thing, and I'm a thinkin' It's certainly worth a try. :-)
A brief aside: It was pointed out to me as I was carrying this book about, that the art on this version is remeniscent of the Coit Tower murals in San Francisco and I agree. This book bibliographic page of this book says it is "Reprinted in its Entirety from the Original Edition First Published in 1963". Presumably THAT edition credited the illustrator--sadly, this one makes no mention of the cover art.
