This was a fascinating look into the experiences that W.E.B. Du Bois not only lived but documented. It describes the trials that he had to endure throughout his life and career. This book explains a lot about why sociology is the way it continues to be today. More people should read this work and take head of not only what it presents but also what we lost by continually denying a great scholar.

A sociological, mass movement based look at the Civil Rights Mvt and it's constituent alphabet soup parts: NAACP, CORE, SCLC, MIA etc. The interesting thing about this book is the many interviews the author had with major civil rights figures towards the end of their careers: about 1979. At times, he digresses in jargon, for example, he identifies that the "white power structure" of the south opposed the NAACP and thereby coalesced people around it (a circle the wagons mentality), but fails to adequately identify what exactly COMPRISED this power structure. Still, a powerful book and recommended as a fine expose of the grass roots movement that was the Civil rights moment.… (altro)
