Tom Moorhouse

An important and very readable book for the average non-scientist about the ecology of our rivers. Tom writes brilliantly, and wittily - there's nothing dry and fusty about this scientific-based read but it is interesting and in places, laugh-out-loud funny.

I had already read Tom's fictional series of books about water voles for children so I had a feeling I would enjoy this too and it didn't disappoint. I found it really interesting to read about the fieldwork with water voles - and later with crayfish. I had no idea what a severe impact non-native crayfish had had on UK rivers and wetlands and Tom sums up with a plea for the future, for leaders to step on board and truly invest in conservation work across the planet.

I'd highly recommend this for anyone interested in conservation, in the planet, in ecology, in water voles - and particularly recommended for young adults interested in a career in conservation. An excellent book which deserves wider coverage. 5 stars from me.… (altro)
