Kathryn Mockler

We all do things that make no sense at times. Be it a bad habit or a misused word or even a glance at something forbidden, we are all engaged in something that makes no sense or serves no purpose. But in our day-to-day lives, do we see that how nonsensical or foolish or even harmful those actions are. Kathryn Mockler has given us a mirror of some of modern civilization's foolishness in her collection of poetry called The Purpose Pitch.

We tend to rush through our lives these days and never give our actions a second thought. We need to take a break from our daily task, read and review an interesting piece of culture that makes us reconsider what are lives are all about. And The Saddest Place on Earth by Poet Kathryn Mockler is just such a work.

Page 23 Serial Killers

Humanity is stopped in its tracks when
everyone is sterilized to eliminate the human
race. Basically it's mass suicide.

Wow that's a good idea.

They've decided to let the plants and animals
take over to see if they fare any better.

So in this scenario getting pregnant is the
worst thing you could do for mankind.

Yes, it's worse than serial killers.

This sounds romantic. This sounds too good
to be true.

While the concepts at first read sound absurd, upon second or third read one can the brilliance in Mockler's logic in making us think in ways we may have not thought before.

We get wrapped up in perfectly-form sentences and paragraphs that it is a pleasure to read something in left-sided-justified verse. We get so wrapped up in the mundane details of our lives that forget that they are mundane. Kathryn Mockler has covered both elements with her book Onion Man.

The warehouse is better to work
in than the rest of the factory -
less pressure. My job may be
boring, but at least I don't have
any responsibility. My job isn't
important. Clinton's is, but I
wouldn't want his job for any-
thing. I don't have to worry
though - they never let women
run the big machines. Working
in the lab would be good. The
room is tiny and soundproof,
and they have a little fan going
and a radio. I peeked in the lab
a couple of days ago. Brenda
offered me corn to eat right
out of the can, and I did, and
it tasted really good. I've never
eaten canned corn before. My
mother always buys frozen,
but now I think canned tastes
better. It's sweeter and has a
better consistency. I ate it cold
but imagine it's good warm
with butter and salt and pepper.
Clinton says you can by a case
wholesale from the factory for
ten bucks. Maybe I'll do that.
