This is a young adult novel, about a group of privileged male teenage friends who live in Manhattan.

As a rule, YA novels are written simply, without a lot of detail. This book takes that trend to a new level. It is so sketchily written that I often wondered what the fuss was about (it was explained in about two sentences and could be missed). Essentially, the issue in this novel is the visit of a cousin, Kelli, of the main narrator, Jonathan. She is beautiful and knows it, and inserts herself into the lives of most of the other characters, not necessarily in a good way. She's out for a good time and doesn't consider these friendships important.

Many episodes happen to each of the characters but these events are not meaningful to me because both the events and the characters are like transparent film. Hard to see.

Admittedly I am not a fan of YA novels. But this one is so bad it is hard for me to believe the comment on the back cover (by author Cecily von Ziegasar): "It's physically impossible not to fall madly, unreasonably in love with each one of the Insiders." Ridiculous. I hardly remember who they are.

So far, I love this series. I love the way these 5 friends stick together through good and bad. When something is going wrong with one of them, they all want to be there to help.

This entire series, so far, has been one hilarious book after the next. And this 4th installment definitely does not disappoint.

Phillipa is gay and Mickey throws a naked party for art. And somehow, I can see that actually happening in real life.

Love this series

I have read a few books lately whose topic is that marriage is not what it seems. Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl shows us the remnants of a bad marriage through the unreliable eyes of both spouses. Chris Pavone's The Expats uses the spy game as a metaphor for how little we really know how our own spouse.

Ben Schrank's novel Love Is a Canoe has a different take. Peter Herman wrote a hugely successful self-help book titled Love Is a Canoe, filled with the wisdom his loving grandparents shared with him as a teen. They taught him the importance of being respectful, treating the person you love with kindness, and many other bromides.

Peter fell in love with a young girl one summer when he was with his grandparents, and following his grandparents' advice, he pursued this girl and eventually married her. They bought an inn and restaurant in upstate New York and lived a happy life.

His wife fell ill and died, and now Peter is dating someone. He hasn't written anything else, and his publishing company has reissued his book many times, still selling a few copies here and there.

Stella is a young editor at the publishing house trying to move up the ladder. She comes up with an idea for a contest where couples would write in asking for marital advice. The winner would spend the day with Peter, stay at his inn and get some helpful guidance from him.

There were a few problems: Peter has had little contact with his publisher over the years, and they had to find just the right couple. Only one couple fits the bill- Emily and Eli. They have been happily married, until Eli cheated on Emily with a work colleague. Will Peter be able to help them? Stella's career depends on it.

There is a lot of inside stuff about working at a publishing house. The woman who is running the company is feared by all, and she was the editor on Peter's book. Schrank works for Penguin publishing and he shows us the pitch meetings, the jockeying for position, and the day-to-day inner workings. It is great fun to read, and this was my favorite part of the book.

This book surprised me with where it was going, and I truly like that in a novel. Taking that ride and not knowing where we'd end up was exciting. People are not necessarily who we have been led to believe, and things are not as they always appear.

The characters are well-drawn, although I thought people were too hard on Stella, ascribing character flaws to her that I do not believe she had. Schrank juggled the various storylines- Peter, Stella at the publishing house and Emily and Eli's marriage- so well that each one of these stories could have made for an interesting book. He brings them together skillfully.

In the end, my general feelings about self-help books were vindicated, but I'm not going to tell you what they are for that would ruin the ending of this wonderful book.

I read books 1 to 5 a couple years ago. I had this book for a while and then finally decided to read it. I loved the first 5 books but this one was just okay. It was interesting at times but I really enjoyed when it focused on the guys! This one was focused on the girls (mainly Flan).

TAKE IT OFF is another installment of the INSIDERS series that describes the innermost thoughts of A-List teenage boys. This is a very funny book because the characters seem like what real, rich A-List boys would act like.

In this particular book, the boys crew that consists of Mickey, David, Arno, Patch, and Jonathan take a "cruise" over winter break together that is a program that Patch's parents wanted him to go on. He of course couldn't go without all of his friends. The cruise is supposed to be a learning experience that teaches the students about history, classics, and sailing. They sail from Athens, through the Mediterranean, around the Iberian Peninsula, and on to London. Along the way all of the crew gets "expelled" from the ship except for Patch.

You will have to read the book to find out how, why, and what they do about it!

I really liked this book, because it was funny, easy to read, and super insightful. One of those books that should only be read next to a pool, or on the beach! A super-fun read!

Flan Flood is back with another adorable novel about her and her crazy friends. (Some more literally crazy then others.)

Two of her closest friends fall for the same guy. And Flan has to be his lab partner. And even though she has an amazing boyfriend who really cares about her, is Flan really the one with feelings for the freshman varsity football quarterback?

I absolutely adore Flan. She has a life that so many teens envy, but she still goes through real issues. She is a character that is so easy to relate to and can seem so real, minus the fact that she's filthy rich.

Take this book to the beach, sit back, and relax, because you're in for a fun ride!

Flan Flood is back!

It's time for Thanksgiving break, and Flan's family has been invited to the island of Nevis in the Caribbean by the Zumberg's. Fran is told that she can bring one of her friends along. After careful consideration, Flan throws caution to the wind and invites BOTH Judith and Meredith along for the holiday. So the three girls get themselves packed and off they fly for their week-long holiday of fun in the sun.

But the holiday is nothing like Flan had dreamed. Within a day, Judith is miserable because the other two girls won't let her cram for the finals that they will return to after the holiday. And Meredith has met Kennedy, Flan's old nemesis from her days at Miss Mallard's. After a confrontation, Judith is packed and headed home. And Meredith starts to defend Kennedy to Flan.

Flan is miserable and Meredith is having the holiday that Flan thought they'd all share. After a desperate phone call to Sara-Beth Benny, Flan's BBF, a helicopter arrives on the stretch of beach that Flan was relaxing on, alone. Out pops SBB, along with a huge steamer trunk that the two of them bought together prior to Flan's holiday. SBB has discovered that the steamer trunk has become a great place to hide away in. So she shares it with Flan, and the whirlwind visit is enough to perk Flan back up.

But it's only after sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner with her family that the vacation truly turns into the holiday Flan was expecting. Her old friend Camille (who had abandoned her for the flash of Kennedy) has shown up and literally apologizes to Flan. Flan realizes what she's been missing since attending school at Stuyvesant High. It makes Flan start to reevaluate the choices she's made for herself and decide if she's truly happy.

SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL is a deliciously fun continuation of the INSIDE GIRL novels. Flan and her group of friends live amazing lives that the reader gets caught up in and envious over. Living vicariously through them all makes for a guilty pleasure. You won't want to miss what Flan and her gang gets up to in the latest installment! And watch out for more when ALL THAT GLITTERS comes out in September.

Flan Flood has gone out of her way to plan an amazing spring break to Paris with her friends and her boyfriend. She's even created a huge notebook containing recommendations, reservations, and any other possible information they could possibly require.

But when a compromising photo of her boyfriend, Alex, shows up on her enemy Kennedy's cell phone, Flan backs out of the trip and relies on her family to get her over her broken heart.

Soon, Flan is jet-setting to three other continents in an attempt to get over Alex. She spends idyllic time on an Italian beach with her parents. She visits sister February at a rice field in Thailand. And finally she flies to Australia to be with Patch, as well as her best friend SBB.

But none of the exotic locales can remove the ache that is Alex. It isn't until Flan returns home and receives surprising news from SBB that she discovers that what she thought may be false.

LUCKY BREAK was a nice change from the INSIDE GIRL series because, for once, there is more of an emphasis on Flan's crazy family. The book focuses more on Flan and her family than the extravagant lifestyle in New York City that most of the series relies on. Don't get me wrong, the entire series is fun, but LUCKY BREAK was a different look at Flan and her family.

For fans of the INSIDE GIRL series, LUCKY BREAK does not disappoint. And those new to the series will be able to easily pick up and understand Flan and her social network.

In the sixth novel based on the INSIDERS series by beloved author J. Minter, the Insiders world is turned upside down! The girls have taken over!

Flan Flood--Patch's little sister--is telling the story and it's her fourteenth birthday! To celebrate, Liesel, who works at a PR firm, is throwing her a sweet sixteen party at a new under-21 club called Candy that opens on Flan's birthday.

Is Liesel just the head of the Candy party, or is she the female head of the Arno fan club, too?

Sara-Beth Benny, better known as SBB, is back for Arno. Is she his sister or his girlfriend?

Philippa can't decide if she's a lesbian and still in love with Mickey, or straight! What will she do to decide? Get in a fist-fight with Mickey's girlfriend, maybe?

Liv, the new girl, is after someone, but can he handle her, or does he think that she's a lunatic?

This is the best book in the INSIDERS series, by far! The girls fight, and play with the boy's hearts! What else could you want in a perfect summer read?

This is the fourth novel in the INSIDERS series, which has yet to disappoint! I love the crazy antics of the boys (and their girlfriends); I just wonder if there is really a group of New York boys this crazy!

Mickey gets into some interesting forms of photography -- put it that way! He even comes up with a crazy way to get all of his friends into it. David begins dating Philippa again, but then something comes out about her. Arno is putting all of his energy into being the Hottest Private School Boy (Who I personally think should be Patch, but what do I know?). Patch is looking for what completes him, which may by one of the many girls of his past. Can you guess who? Jonathan is going out with Flan (Where did her parents come up with that name?).

There are some very interesting things that happen to the boys, such as partying too hard (as usual) and some thievery. No one wants a backstabbing friend. Here's a clue: the person hangs out with the Insiders but is not well liked by them. Read the book to find out all the hot gossip on the hottest guys around.

Flan Flood is the main character in this awesome spin-off of the INSIDERS series!

Flan decides that she wants to go to a public school, because she is tired of her friends using her to try and get to her older brother, Patch. All she wants is to be a normal girl, having a normal high school experience.

But she's a Flood.

She has some of her friends that she's met though her brother living with her as runaways and a movie star hiding in her apartment from the paparazzi!

February is gone with a friend, helping film a music video, and Patch is hanging out with some new girl that he's met, some how or another!

How is Flan going to fit in at her new school, if she can't even talk to the person that calms her down the most, her older brother, Patch?

Flan is my favorite character from the INSIDERS series because she seems the most realistic! She does things and thinks about everything the way any teenage girl would! INSIDE GIRL is too good of a book to miss!

Flan and Alex's relationship is progressing beautifully. And Valentine's Day is just around the corner.

But now Flan has hit a complication. All her friends at Thoney are planning a "no guy" revolt. Camille was dumped by Xander, and in solidarity, the rest of the girls want to stand behind Camille and have nothing to do with guys for the most romantic holiday of the year. Flan is torn between her obligations to her best friends, and her desire to be with her boyfriend.

To make matters worse, SBB (Sara-Beth Benny) has decided to go undercover at Thoney to get a real high school experience to help her with an upcoming audition. Flan doesn't have enough time to devote to her homework, let alone divide herself between her friends, Alex and SBB.

After a chance encounter with her ex-boyfriend, Bennett, Flan decides that playing matchmaker may be her only hope to get her friends to back off the boy boycott and agree to attend the school's Valentine's Day Dance.

When the best intentions blow up in Flan's face the night of the dance, she believes all has been lost and she'll have no one to hang out with at school on Monday. But in typical SBB fashion, Flan's world is still rosy and life goes on.

PERFECT MATCH is another guilty ready in the INSIDE GIRL series by J. Minter. Flan's life is simply fabulous, and just for a brief time, the reader is drawn into the cushy world of the Upper East Side.

Everyone will love Flan after reading PERFECT MATCH, and will be eager for even more of her life in LUCKY BREAK, due out in June 2009.

Welcome to a new year for Flan. After a fall semester at Stuy, Flan has finally realized that the private school setting is where she belongs. She feels far more comfortable around the girls that she went to Miss Mallard's with. So, with the winter break over, Flan begins classes at Thoney.

Thankfully, she has made up with her lost best friend, Camille, when they were both on Thanksgiving break on Nevis. So Flan has a friendly face as she enters the halls of her mother and sister's alma matter. She needs a good friend because her nemesis, Kennedy, is the ruling queen of the class.

Flan easily fits into life at Thoney, and Camille's friends readily accept Flan as one of their own. The first day of school doesn't go perfectly for Flan, but she knows that Thoney is where she truly fits in. After classes the first day, the girls meet up for pizza with a group of guys from the brother school, Dalton. All the faces are familiar, many of them having spent Thanksgiving in Nevis as well. Flan is pleased to see TZ there, but also, surprisingly, Alex.

ALL THAT GLITTERS is a fast-paced jaunt through Flan's first two weeks at Thoney. There are squabbles with Kennedy and Willa, her sidekick. There's a competition to host Virgil. There's always SBB to keep calm and relaxed. There's a fashion show that Flan's agreed to model in. And the gossip. You can expect lots of gossip in ALL THAT GLITTERS, like the rest of J. Minter's works.

For a look into the privileged lives of New York City kids, pick up ALL THAT GLITTERS and the rest of the INSIDE GIRL novels. You'll see how the other half lives. And you can't help but love the life Flan leads.

Wow poor Flan nothing is going right for her. I think Bennett is real sweet and all, But girl needs to get with Adam. He is so into the same things as her. I love how the book ended, with Flan in Adam's arms after being pushed by Feb. And what was up with that whole deal? Crazy Lady!!!! I think this was a great book and I am sitting on the edge of my seat to find out what happens in the next book.

I am just so glad that everything worked out for Flan. She is cool! Poor thing had to go thru so much drama. SBB living with her and beinf a wacko. Then not to mention Liesel and Phil staying there too. Too many female hormones under 1 roof is never any good. Flan is lucky to have 2 totally different sets of friends, her normal and then not so normal. And I can't wait to see what flourishes with Bennett.

We get to find out about Flan and what she really thinks of Johnathan, also Philippa and how she reacts to being a lesbian and still having feelings for Mickey. I truely liked this book.

But way to go David!!! Jonathan: He needs to make up his mind on a girl....who cares if Flan is 2 years younger than him? He is way to into his clothes for a guy anyway. i read 224/224 pages.

this book was about a girl named Flan Flood, who is trying to fit in a new school. she tries to keep her friends from fighting over a popular jock named adam. while keeping her friends away from adam, does she secretly find out that she likes adam too?

My favorite character is probably Flan herself. I think that she is my favorite character just because i feel that i can relate to what shes going through. With all the friend and boy drama that is going on in this book.
I was able to relate to this book a lot because me and my friend have fought over the same guy before so i knew what Flan was going through.

I love this book.

I would recommend this book to 7-09th graders. it has a lot of things that a teenager can relate to--like family disagreements, boy trouble, and gossip.
