This story is an Anishinaabe legend that tells how a small timid creature helped another who was at a loss for finding fish for food, Nanabosho.

As the story goes, a shy little creature, Turtle, had to hide from everything and everyone because he did not have a shell. One day Nanabosho went fishing and he was not having much luck catching fish. Turtle assisted Nanabosho by telling him where all the fish were. Nanabosho was extremely appreciative, so he rewarded Turtle with a beautifully painted shell to protect him from any harm.… (altro)

The Birth of Nanabosho is an Ojibwe legend about a spiritual being who is part human and spirit. It starts out with two children visiting their grandparents in the winter which is the prime time to tell Nanabosho stories. Their grandfather tells them many stories about Nanabosho.

The story explains how this Ojibwe legend Nanabosho came to be and what superpowers he has to trick, teach, or protect the Ojibwe people and animals. The book also explains why Ojibwe people only tell stories of Nanabosho in the winter time, and why Ojibwe people say, "boozhoo", when they greet someone.… (altro)
