A nice story, I did like the idea, but I found it to be rather badly written.
I get the idea that we're following the thoughts and feelings of an adolescent and that it's therefore written in colloquial language, but still, I just found the language use annoying and distracting. There were also some grammatical and spelling errors that I found distracting. I really feel the author should work on developing his writing style...
Other than that, the story was quite interesting. I thought the beginning was really strong and the general plot was intriguing. I did think the ending was weak, and I feel like the idea could have been developed more.
All in all, not really a bad story, but I think it could have been much better, there was a lot more potential in it.

This was an interesting book but all through reading it, I had one question, why. Why did the girl have to die? Why was the dog helping her? Why were the people not being allowed to move on? I'm unfamiliar with the "Tibetan Book of the Dead" that the book is based off of so I was left wondering what was going on most of the time.

I liked the fact that Nikki is smart and determined young girl, able to figure out things for herself. The story does flow very well but I felt that there should be more to it.

Despite the many grammatical & spelling errors, I enjoyed this novel. It was a bit strange at times, but nonetheless engaging and most definitely creative! With some editing, this could quickly become a popular read!

More than just a fantasy

I wasn't sure about this book when I first started it. I thought it was going to be the usual slash, fight and kill the monsters type fantasy, but once you get into it there is far more to it than that. If, like me, you like things like "the Matrix" where you have an action and metaphysics all thrown together then you'll probably like this. But if your looking for pure fantasy, then maybe not.

Anyway, well worth a read. I'd certainly recommend it.

Is there hope after the apocolypse?

Although this book is filled with the typical typos you will find in a PDF version, the story of fear, fate, failure and redemption comes through. Our hero, Malcolm, manages to rise above the slime of simple survival and soar to heights of forgiveness in his travels through vengeful clans, predetory Praetorians and idalistic naturalists. A marriage of sci-fi fantasy and fairy tales. Chris McKenna has quite an imagination and I look forward to reading more of his work.

In Scotland, in the years after an apocalyptic disaster, the surviving people have reverted to clan life and are living off the carcass of the old world. But not everyone has forgotten the technology of the past and not everyone has forgotten the mystical secrets of the ages gone before. Propelled by an act of compassion, Malcolm, a young clansman, finds himself lost in a land of physical and metaphysical conflict that has changed far more than anyone realised. But which path is the right one? Which Paradigm is real?
