Der Comic klang schon vom Klappentext irgendwie spannend, mal davon abgesehen muss ich aber ganz klar sagen, dass das hier definitiv ein Cover-geleiteter Kauf war. Das Bild hat mich einfach direkt gefangen. Einen Blick habe ich vorher natürlich trotzdem reingeworfen und schon da fiel auf: Die Zeichnungen sind echt cool! Ich mag den Stil total.

Nun ist es aber so, dass ich vor allem im ersten Viertel, wenn nicht sogar in der gesamten ersten Hälfte, irgendwie verloren war. Ich konnte der Geschichte da nicht so richtig gut folgen, immer wenn ich gerade drin war, gab es einen Sprung zu einer völlig anderen Szene, und schon ging das "Problem" von vorne los. Das ist natürlich echt schade und hat es mir etwas schwer gemacht zu folgen, oder die Geschichte überhaupt zu sehen, da die Szenen nunmal recht kurz sind. So war es wie eine Aneinanderreihung von vielen, dafür aber kurzen Handlungssträngen. Andererseits wirkt es durch die Zeichnungen und die Kameraführung aber echt cool und solange es in einer Szene geblieben ist, kam ich nach Startschwierigkeiten auch immer wieder rein - vor allem ab der Hälfte des Comics hatte ich wesentlich weniger Probleme, vor allem vermutlich, weil ich mich daran gewöhnt habe und nicht mehr so stark versucht habe die Handlung in eine Reihenfolge zu stellen, oder diese großartig zu begreifen. Ich musste manche Seiten aber auch mehr als einmal lesen.

Am Ende klärt sich dann doch noch einiges irgendwie auf, ich habe keine Ahnung wie oder warum, aber nach dem beenden des Comics habe ich tatsächlich das Gefühl, die Handlung kapiert zu haben, obwohl ich permanent dachte es nicht zu tun. Vor allem war das Ende aber auch etwas spannender und macht mich tatsächlich sehr neugierig auf Band zwei. Trotzdem bin ich echt unsicher, was ich abschließend eigentlich von diesem Comic halte. Er war nicht schlecht, konnte aber auch nicht begeistern. So richtig mitreißen konnte mich Shanghai einfach nicht.… (altro)

In this last volume we finally go back to the mystery that started it all. What happened to the librarian? We do get a little bit more of Pumpkin in this book.

I like this book a lot. It shows that Nola's creativity and craziness does have a place in the world. I thought it was a great happy ending to this series. I do kind of wish Nola's adventures could have continued, particularly since I would have like to have continued to see her grow rather then be told she has grown as the author had to do since they were ending the trilogy.

It's a fun series with a great message and gorgeous illustrations.… (altro)

Nola lives a seaside town that is the epitome of perfection. Too bad it's the most boring thing ever. When the school librarian has an accident, Nola gets sucked in b/c she is sure the two new kids Damiano and Ines have something to do with it. She tries to follow them around but ends up making friends with them. She is still very aware that they are hiding a secret though because there is waaay more to the two of them then meets the eye.

Nola is adorable but her age was a little tough to figure out. Some illustrations and actions make her come across as very young and others put her straight in the teenager camp. I loved her best friend Pumpkin and I'm hoping she will play a bigger part in future stories. There were definitely a lot of unanswered questions in this volume and the end was teeny bit cliff hangery.

I love the art style. Alta Donna is just as beautiful as it's supposed to be. The bright colors and anime happy drawing style definitely serve as a reminder about how idyllic the setting is and keep the mystery from becoming to heavy handed. How Nola is drawn fits her personality perfectly.… (altro)
