Dr. Jacob Rader Marcus dedicated his career to Jewish history. He published hundreds of books and articles during his long life and was both a teacher and a father figure to his students. His best known work is "The Jew in the Medieval World" which is still used as a college textbook.

Difficult reading, but one of the few reasonably comprehensive sourcebooks for various edicts affecting Jews from late Roman times through 1791 (when Poland was partitioned).
