Linathi Makanda

Makanda's poetry collection is a quick, heartfelt read. It reminded me a bit of Amanda Lovelace's poetry—while Makanda's feminism is more subtle than Lovelace's, the two share a lack of subtlety in their poetry that probably comes with time and experience. Makanda is only 22, so I look forward to seeing how she and her poetry grow and deepen. My favorite poem: "I am still learning to find a balance between hating men with every fibre in my bones / But still wanting to wake up next to the 'right' one for the rest of my life."… (altro)
