It took a little while for me to get into it. The book started taking off for me when she described living in France. Then she chronicled the competitive season of 2004, ending with the Athens Olympics. I loved how she got into the nitty gritty of competing in a sport, especially on a team that isn't heavily subsidized. The author (she now goes by Sherraine Schalm, which is her birth name), though, is so funny that I'm sure her take on competing on a team that's heavily subsidized would be a lot of fun too. She writes about the camaraderie among her teammates as they train, compete, and travel (usually on the cheap) together, and between competitors as well.… (altro)

The autobiography of an international epeeist is both an amusing and inspirational read. Regardless if you are a fencer looking to compete internationally, an athlete with a passion for your sport, or a person down on the dumps, this book will most likely cheer you up if all else.
