John Little (2) (1942–)

I first learnt of this book online and instantly gravitated towards it due to its mix of fishing and east-coast Australiana. Unfortunately for me, the book was out of print at thr time, so I tracked it down interstate at an antiquarian bookstore. The 'very fine' copy arrived in the post in a tatty, mouldy state and I placed it on the bookshelf for the right time to read.

I can gladly say that it exceeded my expectations. It was a much funnier, tragic, and well-written book than I ever expected. The 150 year history of the Warren family suitably conveys the complexity of managing a finite resource during a time when fisherman competed against each other simply to put food on the table. It also charts how the industry has changed over the last 50 years - for the better and for the worse. Well done John Little.… (altro)
