Lawrence E. Leonard

Lawrence E. Leonard is currently Library Services Program Officer for the U.S. Office of Education, Region IX, a position that he accepted in October 1976. Prior to this position, he has been Chief of the Catalog Department, Stanford University Libraries, Stanford, California; a Research Associate in the Library Research Center, University of Illinois while in residence working toward the doctoral degree at the Graduate School of Library Science; Project Director of the Colorado Academic Libraries Book Processing Center feasibility study,
an NSF-funded study based at the University of Colorado; Chief Librarian at the National Bureau of Standards, Boulder, Colorado; and Assistant Librarian at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Corona, California, at General Atomic in San Diego, California, and at Martin Company in Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Leonard received a B.A. in geology from the University of Illinois in 1956, an M.A. degree in librarianship from the University of Denver in 1959, and a Ph.D. in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1975, where he held an HEA Title II Fellowship in Library and Information Science. He is currently working toward the M.A. degree in Instructional Technology at San Jose State University.

He has contributed articles and reviews to library periodicals and coauthored two books: Centralized Book Processing (with Joan M. Maier and Richard M. Dougherty), and Management and Costs of Technical Processes (with Richard M. Dougherty). He is a member of the American Library Association, American Society for Information Science, Association for Educational Communications and Technology, California Library Association, and Special Libraries Association.
