Richard Langham Smith is Research Professor at the Royal College of Music. He is co-editor of the Cambridge Opera Handbook on Pelléas et Mélisande and editor of Debussy Studies. His performance urtext of Carmen is published by Peters Edition. He was made Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1995 for services to French music.
