Engrossing and spellbinding, the romance novel, Aspasia and Pericles by Yvonne Korshak was a wonderful read which I enjoyed fully. One of the things I loved was Yvonne's descriptive style of writing; it drew me into the magnificent world of ancient Greece and its people. I also enjoyed the novel's humorous undertone; Aspasia's wit was entertaining and it was one of the things that drew me to her, rendering her my favorite. Aspasia and Pericles is a love story that is nothing short of beautiful. The characters were well-developed and complemented the character-driven plot perfectly. I look forward to reading more of Yvonne's work and recommend Aspasia and Pericles to fans of ancient Greece stories and romance entangled within drama and secrets.… (altro)

A beautiful story in a different era

Some stories have the miraculous power to take you to a different era, connect with characters, and help you immerse yourself in their world. This read was that sort of story for me.

The story is an interesting love story set between two characters named Pericles, who is an undefeated leader of the Athenian democracy, and Aspasia, his courtesan and a philosopher's daughter. Their love was forbidden for many reasons, but the most important was due to an unmatched hierarchy. But they fell for each other and decided to take this to their next destination. This brings a lot of twists and turns to the story.

Their love faces many challenges but is reluctant to give up.

Their passionate love for each other is the soul of this story, which brings an instant connection to the whole historical era set as a backdrop of this story. The writer has drafted a beautiful love story in a different era, with all the intricacies maintained.

Pericles and Aspasia: A story of Ancient Greece by Yvonne Korshak is a historical fiction novel that takes the reader back in time to ancient Greece where Aspasia meets Pericles. A large part of the story is when Aspasia escapes pirates who wanted to sell her and meets Pericles. Though Pericles is married it doesn’t stop him from pursuing a relationship with Aspasia. Interestingly Pericles created a law that forbade citizens from marrying foreigners, which Aspasia was. Because of this law Aspasia worries about her future with Pericles. Additionally, war breaks out when the Spartan tyrant rebels against Athen’s democracy, and Pericles goes to war. Will Pericles’ love for Aspasia survive the war? Will the Athenians defeat the Spartans? Will laws be changed?

The book is well researched and has historical events sprinkled throughout. The author did a great job writing the story about the ancient times of Greece as well as the mythology surrounding the gods. The author’s writing was so descriptive, making the characters come to life and making me feel like I was in Athens at times. Though this is a long book it really held my attention throughout. A very fascinating read!

Delving into ancient Athens, this book offers a vividly crafted world where I could immerse myself. The main characters, Pericles and Aspasia, are authentic, and made me feel genuine empathy as they were relatable and flawed. I loved how famous historical identities like Sophocles were so smoothly made a part of the plot, as it added a lot more depth to the book. Even the side-characters were loveable and added to the overall realness of the story. Educational, engaging, would definitely read it again and would definitely recommend.… (altro)
