To be clear, this is a review of the book, not of the author's life. The author's life is definitely hard and he has overcome a lot of challenges. The book does not at all do justice to his story.
It's just a linear timeline of his life with very little interpretation or reflection. There are a lot of complaints and whining about the women in his life which made it feel quite misogynistic at times. While it's supposed to be about the discrimination he felt, the stories are told in such a personal way that it doesn't paint a broad picture of the situations he experienced. I also think the book could have expanded on his new life in Australia as a motivational speaker and immigration supporter.… (altro)

Walking on Divided Paths by Sipho Khoza is a book set in Swaziland (South Africa) and details the life of a young man torn between two cultures. His Father is Swazi and his Mother is mixed-blood.
I enjoyed the book, it was fascinating to learn about Khoza's culture and how they see/deal with marriage, death and family. I would have liked the book to be edited, which would have made it easier to read. With proper editing, and perhaps more structure, this book would have been more enjoyable. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it. I empathised with what the author went through, there were some incredibly sad parts. I admired the author's resolve and his ability to persevere through trying times.… (altro)

While at times meandering in both dialog and narrative, this was an interesting recounting of certain parts of the author's early life in Swaziland and South Africa. It is a good look at some of the complex situations he experienced due to his mixed race and heritages. There are parts that are very sad, but he does not dwell on those, nor lapse into despair, nor make excuses for his own choices and behavior. It would have been a good idea to explain how he got to Australia, which is where the book opens, but the memoir ends before that move actually takes place.… (altro)

Not a relaxing read, in part to the authors difficult life, in part to poor editing, in part the narration, though the narration was acknowledged in the forward- English being the authors second or third language.
One hole for me was why and how the author chose to move to Perth, and his life adjusting to a new culture and country.
I found it interesting the racism and prejudice of mixed race people from both black and white peoples.
