Necla Kelek

A forceful collection of essays and speeches by Necla Kelek arguing against the Turkish and Muslim parallel societies that have established themselves in Germany. She is a vocal opponent of the pernicious consensus of multicultural equality. She, rightfully, argues that not all cultural traditions are deserving our respect and that the defense of constitutional individual rights requires drawing lines in the sand. Slowly but surely, Germany is starting to take measures against "honor" killings, social intimidation, social benefit fraud and discrimination.

Kelek is willing to talk about uncomfortable truths such as the widespread and repeated marriages among Turkish cousins causes spikes in genetic diseases. Loosening and opening the clan-based structures would benefit the Turkish community and integrate them into the host country. Unfortunately., that message runs counter to huge social assistance bureaucracy that sustains itself alongside the failing ghettos. Kelek is thus constantly attacked for speaking out by an unholy alliance. This collection of speeches and essays presents a sound and well argued account of her argument. The only position I consider not quite tenable is her incompatibility of Islam and the modern world. I think that Islam will have to make peace with modernity just like the equally anti-modern Catholic Church did not so long ago. In the long run, religions have been enormously flexible in adapting to new circumstances. I wish there were more voices of her kind in the current debate.… (altro)

Es tracta de un llibre sorprenent, sorprenent perquè va desvetllant amb cura i sensibilitat tots els sistemes de vida d'una comunitat que suposadament s'hauria d'integrar a una altra amb uns comportaments totalment diversos.
Es refereix a la comunitat turca que treballa i viu a Alemania. Tot i que jo tenia referències i he conegut algunes d'aquestes persones, no creia que es mantenien tant reclosos en les seves tradicions.
Necla Kelek ens ho explica abastament a partir, primer dels seus orígens i després a partir de les vivències que per la seva professió l'han mantinguda a l'entorn de la comunitat turca de Alemania.
L'escriptora adopta una postura molt valenta i no dubta de posar exemples directes que concerneixen el seu entorn familiar.
Desvetlla sense embuts la hipocresia d'algunes situacions habituals
sobretot en les relacions de parella i posa de relleu el paper secundari i dolorosament sotmès de la dona en aquella societat. Fets que es perllonguen d'una manera molt intensa , diu ella, tot i viure en un altre país i que d'alguna manera dificulten l'integració social.
He apres moltes coses amb aquest llibre publicat l'any 2005 i el considero molt recomanable.… (altro)
