"Uncommon Vernacular: The Early Houses of Jefferson County, West Virginia 1735-1835" is an excellent example of a regional survey of American vernacular architecture and its text, the photographs, and the illustrations of the floor plans and other architectural presentations are all very well done. Its audience may be somewhat limited to architectural historians, architects, and those with an interest in historic houses and/or its particular regional focus, but it does present a format for other research efforts in other regions on a comprehensive analysis of vernacular building stock. As a book, it is beautifully designed and laid out. The photographs are black and white and capture so many details with the careful composition and lighting of the images.… (altro)
